Pre-Race Preparation - Gearing Chart
|
USA Cycling has very specific guidelines about juniors gearing, which is why juniors must go through the "roll out" process by one of the officials at every race to make sure that their gears aren't too big. There's probably nothing more frustrating on race morning than having to scramble to find a small screwdriver (except discovering that a helmet or cleats were left behind!) in order to adjust a rear derailleur...that is, to "lock out" the biggest gear or two so that they cannot be used.
Below is a chart that will help you determine if your child needs to have a gear or two locked out before going to the roll-out line.
